Watch Danny Kaye in Hans Christian Andersen

Okay, this has nothing to do with Christmas…but I was so excited about this discovery I made today that I just had to share it with my readers.

You can watch the incomparable Danny Kaye in his classic movie Hans Christian Andersen in full length for free right here on your computer.

The movie is 95 minutes and 57 seconds long, so make yourself comfortable (unfortunately, they’ve thrown in a brief commercial every now and then).  If you or your kids haven’t seen this movie, you’re all in for a real treat.  It’s a fictitious biography of Hans Christian Andersen, the famous Danish writer of fairy-tales, featuring several of his stories set to song and a ballet performance of The Little Mermaid (as a kid, I always liked the Ugly Duckling song the best).

Consider this my early Christmas present to you 😉

As I did last year, I’ll be begin in earnest the day after Thanksgiving…and continue all the way to Christmas Eve.

To play the video, you need to have Flash 8+ installed on your computer.  Versions of Flash are available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, and can be downloaded free of charge here:

If you have Flash 8+ installed on your computer and you still cannot see a video player, you may have installed Flash blocking or ad blocking software which prevents you from seeing this Flash video.  To see the video, you will need to disable your blocking software on

Thank you for bringing that to my attention Christine. Sadly, it appears this movie has recently been scrubbed from all the free sites as far as I can tell.

You can enjoy many of the musical numbers such as The King is in the Altogether (about the The Emperor’s New Clothes), The Inchworm, Thumbelina, The Ugly Duckling, etc. on YouTube & Veoh, but none of the clips are longer than a few minutes.
